Announcement: We’re Building A New House in Mississippi
Yes, you read that right. We are building a new house! First, we have to talk about how we ended up here in Mississippi because if you’ve ever heard me speak, you’d immediately know I’m from South Louisiana. My husband and I are both from a small town called Pierre Part, where we raised our family and bought our dream home on the bayou.
My husband has always worked out of town, and for years, we talked about moving but never followed through. During COVID, we spent a lot of time together as a family and realized it was something we truly wanted. In 2021, we decided to buy a house in Mississippi while keeping our home in Louisiana. We planned to give it a year before deciding where our family’s future would be.
In May 2021, we closed on our Mississippi house. I didn’t even see it until after the closing, and my first thought was, ‘I hate this house!’ The housing market in 2021 was insane—multiple offers, bidding wars, and homes selling in hours. I was in Louisiana with the kids in school, so I couldn’t go house hunting. My husband did his best, but with houses selling so fast, it wasn’t about shopping; it was more like, ‘Here’s a house—do you want it or not?’ Our only goal was to find something big enough for our family that was in decent shape.
This house was always meant to be temporary, and I still can’t believe we’ve been in it for 3.5 years. I didn’t like it from the moment I saw it, and I won’t bore you with all the things I dislike. But it is our house, and I’ve poured my time and energy into making it a beautiful home for us during this chapter. A house should feel like a home, no matter how temporary it may be.
If you’ve followed our journey, then you know we ultimately decided to stay in North Mississippi and make this the future home for our family. After a year of living here, it became clear to all of us that it was the right decision. The schools are excellent, there are so many colleges nearby, and instead of driving an hour to any store, we’re only 10 minutes away. Plus, the Goodwill bins, the amazing weather, and countless opportunities for our kids—things we just couldn’t offer them in Louisiana.
I never thought I’d leave Louisiana, but after one year here, the decision was obvious, and I’ve never regretted it.
We sold our beautiful home on the bayou in December 2022 and started searching for our forever home in Hernando, Mississippi. Life, work, and the economy slowed things down, but finally, it’s our turn to build our dream home!
Why did we choose to build instead of buy? That decision wasn’t easy. We spent years looking at homes and didn’t find a single one that we liked or that would meet our needs. Plus, the prices were so high, and I immediately wanted to change everything about them, LOL. In the end, building exactly what we wanted was the only option that made sense, and I’m excited to bring you along on this journey.

That is beautiful, congratulations!! I understand your plight. We journeyed from our beloved home in Illinois to a rental in Florida and finally had our new home built as well! Couldn’t be happier, and never in my life would I imagine we’d own a new construction, but here we are. It was actually cheaper for us as well. I do miss my old home dearly, wish we could’ve taken it with us lol!
Yes, I didn’t think I would every actually build but seemed like our only option and I think it was the right one. We will see, lol, it’s not done yet.

Congratulations Julie!! How exciting. I remember building my dream home & how much I enjoyed the process. I miss it so very much, circumstances dictated that I move into something smaller, so I built a 2nd. home & loved the process again. I truly love choosing all the things, from shingles, siding, stone to all of the interior design. My builder kept trying to tell me what I wanted, but I stuck to my guns….I knew exactly what I wanted & haven’t regretted a thing I chose. I look forward to following you in the process of building your new home too!!

How wonderful! My best friend moved to Pierre Port because she married a man from there! He is a “Templet” a very common name there! I’ve been and it’s peaceful. I’m considering moving to another state. I want four seasons!!

Congratulations on your new home build! It’s absolutely gorgeous and I look forward to following you on all your upcoming videos. I remember when my late husband and I found our 13 acres of just beautiful woods and very secluded. Fall is so beautiful here and I’m always wishing for snow ( we hardly get any anymore) but when it does our property borders a creek and it is absolutely breathtaking. Congrats again and thank you for all the wonderful videos and especially when I shop with you at the Goodwill bins. Brings back memories of my late husband and I treasure hunting at our Goodwill bins in Columbia, SC. Wonderful memories……..God Bless.

Welcome to MS! My dad’s family is from a a small town called Ackerman. We settled in Columbus after my dad retired from the Air Force.
After I graduated from college, my first job was in Morgan City, LA. Talk about shell shock! I didn’t know what I had gotten my self in for. Newspaper and Coke flats on the tables with strange creatures. I had been around the world but had never experienced anything like that. I taught school and had to get used to the lingo used there. I can still remember one little fellow who asked me if he could go use it. I offered him every school supply I had but he just shook he head and asked again. Finally, another student said that he needed to go to the bathroom. Lots of great memories but I moved to South Carolina which reminds me a lot of MS.
haha! I knew exactly what he meant. my husband has travels a lot and says other people don’t talk like us.
