Easy Holiday Home Decor DIY: Coffee Filter Craft You’ll Love

If you love simple, budget-friendly DIY décor with a vintage twist, this fall craft is going to be your new favorite. I stumbled across a bundle of brown coffee filters at the Goodwill bins and thought they were vintage (they definitely have that look!). Turns out they actually come in this gorgeous warm color, and honestly? I’m obsessed.

These little coffee filter crafts work beautifully for fall décor, but with the right ribbon and greenery, they transition perfectly into Christmas too. Here’s how I made two different pieces using just a few inexpensive supplies.

Why use coffee filters for DIY?

  • The natural color looks vintage and high-end.
  • They’re inexpensive and easy to find.
  • They add beautiful texture with almost no effort.
  • They work for fall, Christmas, or neutral year-round décor.

DIY Coffee Filter Ornament Ball

What You’ll Need

How to Make It

First, I cut a piece of velvet ribbon and glued it into a loop at the top of the foam ball.

Next, I folded each coffee filter several times until it forms a pointed end.

Next, I added a small dab of hot glue to the pointed end and pressed it onto the foam ball. I continued working all the way around until the entire ball was covered and full.

To give it a holiday feel, I pulled a few sprigs from my Siberian hanging bush greenery and glued them near the ribbon.
This tiny detail transforms it from everyday décor into the sweetest Christmas ornament.

I loved how my first coffee filter ball turned out so much that I decided to try another idea!

DIY Coffee Filter Wall Hanging with Vintage Santa

This project is just as easy—and might be even cuter. It’s a great way to use a vintage ornament, cameo, brooch, or small centerpiece piece you already have.

What You’ll Need

  • Round foam disc
  • Brown/tan coffee filters
  • Velvet ribbon (I used a rich brown velvet from Amazon)
  • Hot glue gun + glue sticks
  • Small decorative piece or ornament (I used a vintage-style ceramic Santa head)
  • Greenery (I used the Siberian Hanging Bush from my shop)

How to Make It

First, I folded the coffee filters the same way as before and glued them all over the front of the foam disc until it was fully covered.

Next, I used my hot glue gun to glue a strip of velvet ribbon to the back in a loop so that I could hang the finished piece.

I had a ceramic Santa head in my stash that used to be an ornament. I added hot glue to the back and pressed it into the center of my circular disc on top of the filters. Its size was perfect for the center!

Lastly, I glued a few sprigs of the Siberian Hanging Bush greenery that I have in my shop around the top edge to add dimension and give it an elevated finished look.

I didn’t bother adding velvet ribbon around the edges because you don’t see much of it once it’s hanging. However, feel free to add it if you want a more polished edge for your creations!

Styling Your Finished Pieces

Both pieces ended up fitting perfectly with the cozy, vintage-inspired brown tones in my bedroom.
The little ball hangs beautifully off a decorative chair, and the wall piece is the perfect size for a hook or wall vignette.

What Do You Think?

I’m so in love with how these coffee-filter crafts turned out. They blend seamlessly with my vintage-style décor and were incredibly easy to make!
