Spooky – Sign #1
When I spotted these little chalkboards at the Goodwill bins, I immediately pictured them as the perfect base for some fun Halloween home decor.

First, I decided to use the IOD Typesetting stamp collection.

For my first chalkboard, I used the lowercase letters to spell out spooky. I measured where each letter should go by laying the stamps out on a thin mount, then holding the mount up to the chalkboard to make sure everything would fit just right.

Now for the fun part. I squeezed out a little of the IOD erasable chalk ink (this stuff is a bright white and way better than mixing white paint, in my opinion).

Next, I pressed the ink pad into the backs of the letters, being careful to skip the C, since that’s just a placeholder for the second O.

Once the stamp was inked up, I flipped it over and placed it down on to the chalkboard. Using my hands I firmly pressed the stamps in.

Your stamp should look like this since we left a space for the second O to be placed.

Next, I removed the other stamp pieces and I stamped the second O into position.

How cute is that? You will notice that the two O’s are closer together. I did this on purpose so that I could paint a ghost around the letters!

One thing I love about IOD Chalk ink is that it works just like paint — so I grabbed a small paintbrush and decided to paint a ghost around the letters so that the O’s looked like it’s eyes. You can get creative with yours and add any Halloween themed characters or embellishments that you like.
The best part? It’s not permanent unless you seal it, and it erases super easily.

And that’s it! I let the ink dry and then I styled it in the entryway of our home. Since I bought two signs I decided to stamp the second one with a BOO theme!

BOO! – Sign #2
For the second sign, I switched to the uppercase letters in the IOD Typesetting collection.
First, I laid the letters out evenly on a thin mount.
Since there’s only one “O” in the set, I used a “G” as a placeholder to keep my spacing right.
For this project, I turned the chalkboard sideways (horizontal) because I knew I wanted to leave room to style extra decor along the bottom.

With the stamps still on the mount, I inked the backs and then firmly pressed them onto my chalkboard.

Once I stamped everything, I swapped out my placeholder letter and pressed the “O” into its correct spot between the B and the last O to complete the word BOO.
Stamps can sometimes be a little imperfect, and honestly, I love that — it adds charm! But if you prefer a crisper look, just press down again to fill in any spots.

I am obsessed with how these turned out! Do y’all remember that $5 secretary desk I scored from the Goodwill bins? It has been so much fun to decorate for every season, and these little chalkboards look perfect on it.
