Trash to Treasure: Turning Everyday Trash into Beautiful DIY Treasures
If you’re anything like me, you don’t just see “trash” when you toss out a Pringles can or finish off a jar of pickles—you see potential. There’s something so satisfying about giving everyday items a second life, especially when it means creating beautiful, functional decor for your home or fun crafts for the kids.
Here are a few of my favorite everyday “trash” items that I never throw away—and how I turn them into treasures:
1. 📦 Amazon Packaging (Boxes, Kraft Paper & Envelope Bags)
Before you flatten that Amazon box for the recycling bin—pause! Cardboard makes an amazing base for wall art, signs, or kids’ craft backdrops. The brown kraft paper inside is perfect for wrapping gifts or using as table runners for parties or art time. And bubble wrap? It makes a super fun stamp when dipped in paint for a sensory craft activity.

2. 🌿 Spice Containers
Once they’re empty, I peel off the labels and use these for mini craft supply storage (think glitter, beads, or tiny screws). They also work great for travel-sized snacks or as little containers for homemade playdough.

3. ✨ Pickle Jar Lids
Yes—even the lids! I’ve used them as mini photo frames, painted them to make Christmas ornaments, or turned them into magnetic memo boards for the fridge. They’re the perfect size for small-scale crafts and make a great base for layered art projects.

4. 🥫 Pringles Cans
These are surprisingly sturdy and tall—perfect for storing spaghetti noodles, craft supplies, or even turning into a cute gift container. I wrap mine in pretty paper or fabric scraps and finish them off with a label. They also make adorable “time capsules” for kids!

5. 🥒 Glass Pickle Jars
I always save these! A little Goo Gone to remove the label, and you’ve got the perfect blank canvas. I love painting them with chalk paint for a vintage farmhouse vibe or wrapping them in twine for rustic storage. Use them as vases, pantry storage, or even homemade gift jars during the holidays!

6. 🤎 Brown Paper Bags
Don’t toss those grocery bags! I use them as faux kraft wrapping paper, DIY gift tags, or to create custom paper garlands. I even cut them into strips to make cute little paper bows. They’re also great for that “natural neutral” aesthetic.

Why Trash to Treasure?
Not only is it budget-friendly and eco-conscious, but it also sparks creativity in ways that store-bought supplies never can. It’s all about seeing beauty in the ordinary and making something uniquely yours.
