As the air turns crisp and the pumpkins start to pop up on doorsteps, it’s time to get into the Halloween spirit with some fun and easy DIY decor! If you’re like me, you love adding a personal touch to your seasonal decorations.
This year, I decided to create an adorable pumpkin candy jar that’s perfect for displaying Halloween candy! This project is simple, budget-friendly, and a great way to get crafty. Ready to make your own?

Items Needed:
- Small Glass Jar
- Round Coaster
- If your small glass jar does not have a lid – grab 2 coasters, preferably one that would fit as a lid and the other a little bit larger
- STAALMEESTER Pointed Sash Brush*
- Hot Glue Gun
- Dixie Belle Chalk Paint – Fluff*
- Dixie Belle Sea Spray*
- Water
- Sandpaper (optional)

I found this glass jar at the thrift store, and I’m pretty sure it was originally a light fixture cover. But I thought it would make the cutest little candy dish! So, I grabbed a few extra pieces from my stash and gave it a touch of fall flair.

For the lid, I used two different-sized wooden coasters to create a faux lid and a topper.

I used my hot glue gun to attach the two wooden coasters together.

Next, I found this little pumpkin ornament in my stash and glued it to the top of the larger coaster. I can’t even remember where I got it from, but I think it was originally a Christmas ornament.
That’s one of my favorite things about thrifting—you can turn the most random items into something truly special! This is also why I have such a hard time getting rid of anything. Everything eventually finds a place in my stash!

Next, I used Dixie Belle chalk paint in the color Fluff, along with Dixie Belle Sea Spray, to add both color and texture to the pumpkin lid. Sea Spray is a texture additive that can be mixed into any paint to create a more dimensional look.

I wanted to give the topper a pottery-like look, so I made sure to emphasize the brushstrokes and texture for that handcrafted feel.

Using a STAALMEESTER Pointed Sash Brush, I painted everything—the pumpkin, leaf, and stem—to complete the look.

I ended up distressing the top a little, which gave the edges of the lid a perfectly worn, rustic look!

Lastly, for the fun part! I added some candy to my dish and thought candy corn would be the perfect choice!

I think this turned out absolutely adorable! I really love the shape and style of this candy jar. Can you believe it all started as a light fixture glass cover?
